FOGWILL & JONES RECOMMENDS RETURN TO EQUITIES

“Despite negative publicity, now is a good time to buy into equities and funds,” says Colin Fogwill, of Sheffield’s Fogwill and Jones Asset Management Limited.

The leading investment director is advising clients looking for a medium-term return to consider the equity market, particularly in light of recent reductions in bank interest rates.

Colin added: “I believe the falls in the financial markets of late have been overdone, making equity income funds very good value for money for investors who can afford to sit out the current slump. It is possible that there will be further short term volatility, but as always, the eventual returns will be worth the wait.”

Fogwill and Jones is helping an increasing number of clients take advantage of the changeable financial markets through its discretionary service. The firm is one of only a few in South Yorkshire and the surrounding area with permission to act in this manner, which means once a strategy has been agreed, investment decisions are made on a client’s behalf, offering daily portfolio management and a near elimination of paperwork.

Colin concluded: “Recent cuts in interest rates have meant that clients with liquid assets cannot hope to receive an adequate return by leaving their money in bank or building society accounts with fixed interest. This is the perfect climate for these investors to take advantage of low share prices.”

FOGWILL & JONES HELPS INVESTORS OUSTED BY BANKS

Investors who are being turned away by big banks are benefiting from the personal service offered by boutique wealth managers, such as Sheffield’s Fogwill and Jones. Fogwill and Jones’ investment director, Colin Fogwill, said: “Many large companies no longer want to work with clients with less than a million pounds, but that could actually be to the advantage of smaller investors.” Top performing boutique wealth managers, like Fogwill and Jones, look for the best investments for their clients from a wide-ranging portfolio, rather than being tied to in-house products.

Fogwill and Jones Asset Management Ltd offers a full wealth management service, which includes tax planning and tax accountancy, investment management and all wills and probate work. The firm is also one of the few discretionary managers operating in Sheffield and the surrounding areas.

Colin added: “Fogwill and Jones provides a level of personal service that clients have difficulty finding elsewhere and many investors are now recognising the value of using a truly independent adviser, who can offer a bespoke wealth management service without charging the earth. “The nature of our business means we have more time to devote to researching the funds that perform best for clients and many savvy investors are now reaping the rewards. Unfortunately boutique operations like Fogwill and Jones are generally unknown to those left out in the cold by the big banks and as a consequence, some are missing out on invaluable independent investment and tax advice.”

FOGWILL & JONES USES DISCRETION TO BEAT RECESSION

Fogwill and Jones Asset Management Limited is helping clients make the best of changeable investment markets, thanks to its discretionary service.

Fogwill and Jones is one of only a few firms in South Yorkshire and the surrounding area with permission to act in a truly discretionary manner. This means once a strategy has been agreed, investment decisions are made on a client’s behalf, offering daily portfolio management and a near elimination of paperwork.

Colin Fogwill, Fogwill and Jones’ investment director, said: “There are still ways to make money, even in a depressed market, by knowing which parts of the world and what industry sectors to invest in and when to switch. It is times like these that discretionary management is at its most advantageous for the client, as we can move investments quickly with changes in the markets.”

Fogwill and Jones prides itself on developing personal relationships with clients, to enhance its ability to act in a discretionary manner on their behalf. The firm has no minimum investment amount for its discretionary portfolios. Colin added: “Many large financial institutions offer a discretionary service, but some only carry out a monthly re-balancing, which means keeping to a prescribed asset allocation. In my opinion, this is not discretionary management. It is, therefore, important to recognise the difference – managers performing re-balancing do not keep such a close eye on market movements and consequently, cannot react as quickly to changes.”

FOGWILL AND JONES PUTS TRUST IN TRUSTS

Sheffield-based asset manager, Fogwill and Jones, is highlighting the value of using trusts to protect investments and leave a legacy for future generations. Investment director, Colin Fogwill, said: “Trusts can run for up to 80 years and can be used by investors to protect assets long after their death, to benefit their children and even grandchildren.

“Many solicitors and financial advisers wind trusts up when a client dies because it is automatically assumed that beneficiaries would want the cash. At Fogwill and Jones we keep trusts going where possible, as we recognise the important role they have to play in creating wealth that will reap benefits for entire families, both now and in the years ahead.”

Under new laws, the taxable gains from unit trusts have been reduced from 40% to 18%, making them more tax efficient than life assurance companies’ investment bonds. Trusts also attract their own capital gains tax exemption that can be used annually by the beneficiaries.

Colin added: “I would urge investors to question their adviser about the advantages of keeping trusts going and of placing their estates in trust. It is also important to appoint trustees that will be happy to continue in their role and act in the best interests of the beneficiaries once the person who established the trust has died.

FOGWILL & JONES URGES INVESTORS TO USE DISCRETION

Fogwill and Jones Asset Management Ltd is urging wealthy families to consider the advantages of employing a “family office” to manage discretionary financial affairs.

Investment director, Colin Fogwill, said: “An increasing number of high net worth investors are disenfranchised by their very expensive wealth managers, but they are not aware of the alternatives.

“We believe there are thousands of extremely wealthy individuals looking to strike up a personal relationship with an independent firm like Fogwill and Jones, who will put the best interests of their family first, rather than trying to sell expensive products.”

Sheffield-based Fogwill and Jones is believed to be one of the few firms in the north with the necessary permissions to act in a discretionary manner. It has no minimum charge on investments and offers clients ‘cradle to grave’ services, such as probate administration and trust advice.

Colin Fogwill added: “What many investors don’t realise is that to act in a discretionary manner, we have achieved the same level of qualification as an adviser or portfolio manager from the large institutions. But our personal service comes without the inflated fees charged in the south, where the bulk of wealth management companies are based. We pride ourselves on building relationships with clients that endure throughout their lifetime and that of their children.”
